Join us!Job Summary The Manager, Mechanical Engineering Caris responsible for working with internal and external partners to define CN'scar roadmap.
The role establishes the ideal number of car configurations tomaximize safety, productivity, reliability, and availability while minimizingcost.
Main Responsibilities Car Roadmap and Specification Contribute to and maintain CN's car roadmap Work with Mechanical Reliability, Marketing, as well as Procurement and Supply Management (P&SM) leadership to understand customer's requirements Participate in the development of detailed specifications for all new and program car builds as well as component purchases Envision and lead proofs of concept for new car components with accurate baselines and detailed test plans Present recommendations to Senior Leadership Work with Financial Planning on cost and benefit analyses as well as business cases to measure the financial impact of recommended car modifications to CN Continuous Improvementthrough Vendor and Industry Focus - 25% Work closely with Car Reliability and Fleet Leaders to understand current pain points affecting CN's car fleet Maintain involvement in day-to-day activities, including tracking the reliability and support processes of related components with the goal of identifying areas of improvement Support P&SM in dealing with car builders and component vendors Influence the product roadmap of CN's vendors to ensure customers' future needs are considered when planning products Leveraging Data to ImproveAsset Utilization Leverage data analysis to better understand how CN's car fleet is used and maintained Support Mechanical Leaders with regards to maintenance and inspection work scopes, reliability calculations and estimates, as well as root-cause analysis Working Conditions The role has standard workingconditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday toFriday.
The role is partially performed outdoors in various types of weatherand environmental conditions.
The role requires occasional travel (25%) withinCanada and the United States (U.
S.
).
Requirements Experience Mechanical Between 3 to 5 years of industry experience working with cars, car components, and car design Knowledge of rail car components and functionality Experience with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) on car design and improvement Experience with data analysis tools such as Tableau, Power BI, BusinessObjects, Systems, Applications and Procedures (SAP) Business Warehouse (BW) Experience with Service Reliability System (SRS), Right Time Business Intelligence (RTBI) Education/Certification/DesignationBachelor's Degree in Engineering Competencies Identifies potential safety and security risks Solves problems to create value Collaborates with others and shares information Sets direction and inspires others Communicates with impact Knows the business and stays current on industry needs Applies critical thinking Technical Skills/Knowledge Understand CN's Transportation and Mechanical departments Knowledge of North American Class 1 train operations Knowledge of CN's car fleet, rail network, and systems CN is a world-class transportation leader and trade-enabler.
